How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal works by targeting your hair follicles and zapping them so hair won’t grow back. Fully eliminating hair in the desired area usually takes several treatments. You may also need a periodic maintenance treatment or two in the future - while the laser will destroy the hair follicles you have now, it is possible to develop new hair follicles; for example, if your hormones shift or your weight changes. The laser deeply and safely penetrates the skin to destroy hair follicles. It drastically reduces hair growth anywhere on the body and works great on sensitive areas such as bikini and underarms. It also features superior melanin absorption and is incredibly effective for all skin tones and types, including dark skin. Laser hair removal allows for quick treatments with minimal discomfort and also eliminates darkness in areas like the armpits.

When the laser is pulsed on the skin surface, the melanin (darkness) of the hair pulls the light energy in, converts that energy to heat and destroys the hair root.  The light is absorbed by the melanin along the hair follicle and the hair shaft.  The laser pulses just long enough to destroy the pigment, that’s less than a second, disabling multiple hair follicles in a single application.  This leads to either the elimination of that hair or significant obstruction of the hair growth depending on the stage of the hair.  Because the laser is only emitted for a fraction of a second, it is able to affect the melanin before damaging the surrounding skin, which is protected by the patented cooling technology. Laser treatments last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the area.

What type of Laser do you use?

The latest technology in the market, the Elume Diode 808 is one of the most powerful hair removal systems available. This revolutionary device combines profound hair removal technology with advanced safety features, a multifaceted cooling system for comfort, and fast treatment times for pain-free, enjoyable treatments.

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

It's large applicator reaches various tissue depths and targets multiple hair follicle structures while the system

continually cools skin and maintains itself at an optimal, safe temperature during treatments, making hair removal virtually painless.

How long will Laser Hair Removal last?

That depends on the area being treated. A small area, like your armpits, will take much less time than, say, a full leg hair removal. Feel free to contact us for an exact time estimate on the treatment you’re interested in.

How Should I prepare for Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal targets the root of the hair, so you should discontinue any depilatory techniques such as plucking or waxing that remove the root of the hair for at least six weeks before treatment (shaving is okay). No antibiotics at time of treatment or 2 weeks prior to treatment. Try to avoid sun exposure in the area to be treated as well.

I'm I a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Most people can be successfully treated with laser hair removal, although extremely light-colored hair can be difficult to treat. We advise anyone interested in laser hair removal to come in for a consultation so we can give you personalized, customized recommendations for your situation. Our laser hair removal equipment works well with all skin types. Skin Type: 1-6.

What is the difference between IPL and DioLaser?

IPL technology requires more sessions to obtain lasting results. Diode laser, however, works effectively with less patient discomfort while enabling providers to treat more skin and hair types than traditional IPL.

Laser is comprised of a monochromatic (single) light with a defined simple wavelength. It's design uses laser light emissions, which is why it is also known as photoepilation. It prevents the dispersion of energy and keeps it flowing in the same direction, enhancing the effectiveness of every single shot during each client’s session.

Elume has a long pulse width of 808nm, which is absorbed by the melanin of the hair (the substance that determines its color phototype). This is transformed into heat and destroys the hair bulb through a process called selective photothermolysis, all without affecting the underlying tissue. It also features one of the highest powers per single shot on the market, making Elume a top brand in the industry.

What to Expect with Laser?

Our hair is constantly chaining from a number of factors that make us who we are.  It is this diversity that makes proper hair removal a process.  As our body reacts to different situations such as hormones, medications, weight and even our genes, our hair growth pattern changes and may activate dormant hair follicles.

The complex nature of hair growth controls the number of sessions required to reach your personal preference of hair removal. Generally, each session can result in a 10-25% reduction in hair growth. We schedule treatments every 4-6 weeks depending on the area. Each treatment can result in lighter, finer hair as you work with us to achieve permanent results. Chic MedSpa’s goal is to see this process through to ensure complete satisfaction.

How Long Before I See Results?

Immediately.  The treated follicles have been destroyed and will no longer return, leaving the hairs to fall out naturally between 10-14 days after treatment.  Many people will shave the hairs as they begin to surface.  You don’t have to do anything, they will fall out either way.

Are There Any Guarantees?

Yes! We are confident in our ability to rid you of unwanted hair with our laser system and stand behind our promise. As everybody responds differently to treatment, some people may need a few additional touch-up sessions to attain their desired results.  After your initial 6 treatments, we provide up to another 6 additional treatments at 50% off our regular non-member pricing (restrictions apply, cannot be combined with any other special).
